This week we began our spring and ladybug unit. The children
loved playing outside this week and enjoyed the beautiful weather!
Ladybug art and spring pictures! The kiddos painted with
watercolors and used construction paper to create these beautiful pictures.
Language Arts
For Reader’s Workshop we read the stories Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, Pigeon Wants a Hot Dog and Pigeon Needs a Bath by Mo Willems. Not only are these books fun, but the
children worked on the skills- connections, opinion and predicting.
Literacy Stations- The games this week focused on ending
digraphs and missing blends. In small
groups, the children used shaving cream to practice smartie spelling and
handwriting! This is always a favorite
activity and easy to do at home to reinforce these skills! Also, the kiddos completed a picture sort
with r-controlled vowels (or, er).
Math
Math stations- The children used ladybug and insect
manipulatives to practice counting on and finding the missing addend.
We played the game ‘popcorn’ counting by 5s and 10s to
100. In a circle, the children have to
listen to the friend before them and follow with the next 5 or 10. The kiddo who lands on 100 has to pop out of
the game until there is only one person remaining. Not only does this game help
with listening, but also the children are practicing good sportsmanship!
