Literacy stations and word work: -ow and –ew endings 

Stamp, spell and write activity!

Reader’s workshop- We read the story, How I Became a Pirate by David Shannon and Melinda Long. In their journals, the children drew their own treasure map and explained where they would hide their treasure. They sure came up with creative answers! :)

Science- The children investigated different parts of a ladybug including the head, thorax, wings, abdomen, antennae and eyes. Next, they labeled the parts and created their own ladybugs using paper plates. and painted on their spots and features. These will be displayed in the hallway.

Math stations- We continue to play a variety of games to help strengthen our number confidence. This week a few of our stations helped us solve different equations by filling in a part of the number sentence that was missing. Finding the answer to 5+7=__ isn’t so bad, but when you have __+7= 12, we have to figure out what strategy to use and this can be tricky!

The children have enjoyed listening to our newest Magic Tree House book, Sunset of the Sabertooth. Throughout the story, I will pause and have the children predict what is going to happen next or take on the role of the character to see what they would do in a particular situation.

Finally, we wrapped up our week diving into art history and learning about Michelangelo and the Sistine Chapel. The children imagined they were painting the ceiling as they laid on their backs! They absolutely loved this project!
