We have taken a dive into our ocean unit!  The K-kids are curious and eager to learn about this  vast body of water and sea life.  We began the week with K, W, L chart to find out their background knowledge.  Also, the children made a list of things that interested them and what they wanted to learn.  This chart will be a helpful tool to guide their interests and learning!

                                                                     Language Arts
We began our new rotation of literacy work stations this week, focusing  on more complex reading and writing skills.  We discussed what the magic e does to the other vowels in words like cake, bake, and bike. Try to look for magic e words when reading at night!

                                                                            Math
We started our new math stations this week and the focus was on decomposing numbers and measurement!  The kiddos estimated the height of different ocean animals and then measured the animals using unifix cubes.

                                                                           Science
Did you know that sharks don't have a skeleton made of bones? Instead, they are made of cartilage, which allows them to swim through the water with ease. Also, a shark has up to 20 rows of teeth and as they fall out, a new tooth from the next row just pops right in to fill the space! Ask your kiddos to tell you even more shark and whale facts! Next week, we will learn about the ocean zones.

Ms. Floyd visited our classroom and shared different shark teeth and jaws! It was fascinating getting to see the jaws up close and touch the teeth.

The children created a watercolor ocean scene and will add ocean creatures this week.

In P.E the kiddos had a blast playing the shark and Nemo tag game.

The children were ecstatic to reunite with their 8th grade buddies!
