The Monster Who Came to School!

It was great to see new faces at Miniature School Night this week! I appreciate your presence and I am excited to be a part of your child’s growth and learning this year!

The Monster Who Came To School!

The K-kids were intrigued by the story, The Monster Who Came to School.  The monster in the story had never been to school and was a terror to his friends and teacher.  We later find out the monster had never been to school and didn’t know how to act appropriately.  At the end of the story, his classmates intervened and helped the monster by coming up with a list about how to respect the classroom and more importantly each other!

This book started a great discussion between the children focusing on how they wanted to be treated and in return how they are going to show respect towards one another.  The kiddos made a class book with a picture and one positive way the monster could act if he came to our classroom. They enjoyed sharing their pictures with friends!  All of the books we create this year will be in a Roycemore K Authors bin in our classroom library. Feel free to come take a look throughout the year!

In Writer’s Workshop, we learned that writing is just telling on paper.  The writing process begins with pictures and as the year progresses they will add layers to their writing.  Right now we are doing our best to think of a topic and write by drawing a picture and then stretching out our words.  The K-kids enjoy sharing their work and being a respectful audience member too!

Math and Literacy stations will be in full swing next week! Stay tuned.

Art in the classroom-

The kiddos painted, used watercolors, and a variety of art supplies to create their own works of art.  This was their open-ended art time to explore their creativity and have fun :)

The K-kids having fun on the playground and enjoying the beautiful weather!

P.E- Stretching our bodies and playing with the parachute are all in a day's work!
This upcoming week:

·      After school clubs will begin!  Hooray! Contact Melinda Orzoff if you would like your child to participate.

·      Please make sure your child has a water bottle to keep at school.

·      Your child will bring home their MONSTER folder.  This folder is a great tool to teach responsibility and for us to communicate with one another.  There will be a pocket inside where your child will have their ‘just right’ book to practice each night. This folder will be taken home daily and returned to school in the morning.

·      Tuesday, September 12 is Picture Day.  A reminder form was sent home this week . Please have your child dressed and ready Tuesday morning.  In the following weeks, proofs and order forms will be sent home and at that time you can decide what pictures you want to order.

Important dates in September:

·      NO SCHOOL- Thursday, September 21 for Rosh Hashana.  EDP will be available from 7:30am-6pm.  Please contact Melinda Orzoff  (Lower School Division Head) to sign up for this camp.
